The Home Stretch
After today's events, I feel an update's in order.
Yesterday was spent driving from Sacramento to somewhere vaguely east of San Diego. Traffic, assholes in Aveos, and miscellaneous other douchebaggery considered, it took us almost twelve hours. Not bad for SoCal rush hour traffic.
Today, however, was the prize winner.
Around ten this morning, we hit a Border Patrol checkpoint somewhere near Yuma, near the Cali-Arizona border. No biggie, we're fine, upstanding citizens.
Apparently the heavily-trained german shepherd had thrown a rod and was sure we had mexicans and blow hidden somewhere amongst the luggage and kids. Therefore, we were "redirected" to the side of the highway, and I was asked to step out of the vehicle. Long story short, we managed to avoid having our belongings (along with the Explorer) ripped to small bits by angry uncaffeinated border patrol agents. I could've done with a cavity search, but the agent in question had big hands and dirty fingernails, so I opted for the polite approach. Ultimately, we were back on our way pretty quickly. I'll get some pics on the myspace page when I get a chance.
We're camped in an Econolodge in El Paso right now. The headaches are apparently staging an all-out reunion tour, so sleep's a no-go for now (until I can find where Misty hid the sominex). I'm just waiting for the nosebleeds that go along with it. That'll prove for an interesting vacation.
Tomorrow we're getting on the road around 0700, which should put us there around 1500 or 1600, so we still have time to relax. I'll be in touch.
